Augmentastic is dedicated towards the development of novel design and interactive
technology to revamp businesses. One of the many case studies involving intelligent
assembly solutions was carried out on mixed reality technology.
Training on mixed reality learning module was imparted to trainees for product
innovation, followed up by maintenance and repair training. Hololens application was
developed by a combination of various modules like X-ray product view, 3D system stimulation, test set up – Digital Twin, Detailed product parts view and maintenance module.
Implementation of this project hiked access to training by 7 times and workmen were able to recall 5 times better. The results have propelled the project to next phase- interactive immersive reality.
This case study was carried out to document customer experience of the efficiency of a newly devised Hololens training module. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the new module in imparting mixed reality training to trainee individuals for augmented performance in product innovation.
Mixed reality is essentially the amalgamation of real and virtual views of the world to allow a common platform for interaction of physical and virtual objects in real time. This application has limitless potential in taking the way industries are operated and managed, to a whole new level.
The difficult part of the process was to devise a training module for proper implementation of mixed reality technology for the smooth functioning of the processes. Hololens was chosen for performance test through a series of technical tests to achieve the desired result.
Creating mixed reality developers for creating next age manufacturing is crucial. New product innovation not only requires creativity and market feasibility but also ample of time. To have an upper hand in the cut-throat market competitiveness, manufacturers need to expedite steps of product innovation, starting from experimentation to validation.
Mixed reality solutions make prior design experimentation for innovators, saving unnecessary alterations to product prototype. Hololens mixed reality application is created to address the gap in the application of semi-immersive experience of combined AR and VR through trainees.
Time and cost management without compromising on the quality of products is the need of today’s manufacturing scenario. A complete Hololens experience begins with a step by step training procedure, complete with follow up work of repair and maintenance. Hence the training module is quite a comprehensive one, meant to deal with a complete product solution.
Application Delivery Modules
X-Ray Product View
X-ray view interaction was used to get a detailed view of the product inside the equipment.
3D System Simulation
The 3D hologram was created using mixed reality training for pre visualization of the system and a greater level of interactivity.
Digital Twin – Test Set Up
A control set up was also created devoid of any mixed reality technology, so that other delivery module performances could be compared to the test environment.
Detailed Product View
An exploded view of the product, revealing every part detail was created using the training module.
Maintenance Module
Augmented or mixed reality module for maintenance and repair of the equipment was proposed. This included dis-assembly, assembly and replacement of the equipment part.
Implementation of mixed reality training using Hololens Training Module increased training accessibility by 7 times. Apart from the reduction in training time and cost, this application increased the recall factor of trainees by 5 times.
These increasing factors have the potential of having a profound effect on the entire system of industrial manufacturing. The rising graph of this project’s industrial potential has paved the path to the next phase of the study to expedite the next level interactive-immersive reality experience.
